Madhya Pradesh beat Mumbai in the 2021-22 Ranji Trophy final on Sunday to claim their first title. The Chandrakant Pandit-coached side had a hand on the coveted trophy since taking a 162-point lead against Mumbai in the opening innings. Later, MP also completed the formality quite easily by grouping Mumbai for 269 runs in the second leg to finally pursue the target of 108 runs with six wickets in hand on the final day of the final.
Since Sunday’s victory, Pandit and his men have been praised for their hard work which helped them claim their first ever Ranji Trophy title. If the coach’s work ethic is no secret to anyone, his latest revelation has even more prompted Internet users to wonder about him.
The coach has revealed he only gave MP captain Aditya Shrivastava two days off for his wedding last year.
“To reach the top, you have to make sacrifices. When Aditya got married last year, he came to me and asked me what should be a good time and I told him that I couldn’t do it. free for the festivities only for a period of two days,” Pandit said as quoted by news agency PTI.
On the other hand, Shrivastava, on a lighter note, said, “I got married last year but didn’t even take 10 days vacation with my wife.”
It should be noted that Madhya Pradesh’s last Ranji Trophy final before 2022 was in 1999.
Pandit was the captain at that time and his team lost to Karnataka. Coincidentally, the final which took place 23 years ago was played at the same venue where MP won their first title on Sunday. This is the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.
