the The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) announced this weekend that it would unveil a new employment plan for craftsmen in early January 2022.
The new scheme known as the Artisans in Collaborative Construction Employment Scheme (ACCES) is designed to create a pool of qualified, competent and employable people in the construction sector.
It must be anchored by the Special Department of Public Works of the Directorate with an effective take-off date of January 10, 2022 in 13 states of the federation.
NDE’s deputy director of information and public relations, Mr. Edmund Onwuliri, disclosed in a statement in Abuja.
He said the program was primarily designed as a collaborative initiative between the NDE and other relevant construction industry stakeholders and organizations, such as national and multinational construction companies and professional bodies in the field of construction. construction in order to ensure that participants become familiar with the standards of the various construction trades.
The program also aims to impart industry-oriented skills as well as provide appropriate certification to craftspeople under relevant professional bodies.
According to Onwuliri, the program is expected to provide a more reliable and reliable skilled labor pool for the construction industry in the country, pave the way for improving and upgrading the skills of artisans.
He said: “ACCES should provide a platform to organize artisans for regular and sustainable work, in addition to instilling in them the spirit of professionalism and engendering more trust from the paying public. Graduates from different NDE programs relevant to the construction industry such as Environmental Beautification Program (EBTS), Basic Open Learning Program (B-NOAS), Open Learning Program Advanced (A-NOAS) along with other artisans across the recipient states will constitute initial admission into the scheme.
He also revealed that the Branch is making plans to start providing certificates to artisans.
