Gavin Dovey, Justin Langer’s ally, resigns, Australia vs Pakistan series, Ashes, video

A close ally of Justin Langer has left the national organization, effective immediately.

Fox Cricket understands team manager Gavin Dovey has resigned.

Dovey lived in London but has regularly linked up with Langer and the test team in recent years, gradually taking on more responsibility as he has been with the team.

He was involved in the seemingly heated exchange with a CA staff member after the Bangladesh tour, when the Bangladeshi team’s song was released on CA’s official channels.

He has a mixed reputation among players, although he and Langer had a close working relationship.

As a team leader, Dovey survived the tenures of three coaches.

Under Mickey Arthur, his role expanded to help determine key cultural issues.

Under Darren Lehmann, his position has been reduced somewhat to focus on the same logistics that his popular predecessor Steve Bernard had in his job description.

With a rugby background – just like Pat Howard – Dovey was not against pushing the boundaries of traditional cricketing culture.

At the end of 2010, he left his former position as director of rugby operations in England.
