Newtown – It is with deep sadness and much love that we mourn the passing of Howard Charles Bailey, of Newtown PA on Saturday, January 15, 2022, at the age of 91. Howard was born in Bristol, Bucks County, and was the son of the late George P. Bailey, Sr., and the late Helen M. (Simon) Bailey.

Howard aka “Duffy” or “Beatle” graduated from Bristol High School in 1949 where he competed in track and field, football and baseball. He graduated from Junior College in 1951. Howard was self-employed as an electrical contractor.

Howard was a veteran and part of the Allied U.S. Army occupation forces after World War II in Germany. He was a longtime member of the American Legion, Morell Smith Post 440 in Newtown. He was a patriot and enjoyed firing a cannon to celebrate every 4th of July to the delight of the neighborhood kids.

In his spare time, you might find Howard collecting antiques, flea marketing, attending antique gun shows, bowling, fishing, hunting, or playing his harmonica. He was a life member of the Forks of Delaware Historical Arms Society. He was a member of the Great Swamp Fish, Game & Forestry Association, the Kentucky Rifle Association, and the Pennsylvania Antique Gun Collectors Association. Later in life, Howard qualified and competed on the Senior Pro Bowling Tour.

Howard’s jovial attitude and great sense of humor will be remembered and missed by all. He had recently said that his fondest memories were of family time with his wife and children.

He is survived and his children will be lovingly remembered: Liane Pfeiffer (Douglas Pfeiffer), Bethann Rinkus (Bob Rinkus), Scott Bailey (Beth Bailey), Sherry Bailey; grandchildren: Christian Pfeiffer (Suzanne Cotter), Eric Pfeiffer (Sabrina Pfeiffer), Daniel Bailey, Aaron Bailey and great-grandchildren Avery Pfeiffer, Marin Pfeiffer, Rowan Pfeiffer; as well as many relatives and friends.

He was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife of 49 years, Shirley E. (Schaffer) Bailey; his second wife Anna C. Simons, as well as his siblings: George, Jr, Edward, Carrie, Gladys, Elizabeth, Dorothy, John (Jack), William and Jacob (Dave).

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
