Malaysian Retail Market Sees 100% Increase in Online Hiring: Monster Employment Index

The retail industry has seen a dramatic 100% year-over-year growth in hiring activity due to the rapid digitalization of the industry. The government has also played a major role in reviving economic activities by facilitating the smooth functioning of logistics and supply chain industries. The BFSI sector also performed well (up 35%) with the increased adoption of technology and the entry of several new players into the space. Sectors such as hospitality are also on an upward curve (+31%) with the opening of land and air borders as the country slowly emerges from the Covid-19 pandemic.

Commenting on employment trends for April 2022, Sekhar GarisaCEO, – APAC and Gulf mentioned, “With the rapid opening of borders and the deployment of vaccinations, Malaysia is on the path to a full post-Covid economic recovery. The government has done a tremendous job in ensuring the revival of economic activity in all sectors and with the rapid adoption of digitalization, the trend is expected to continue. Even some of the existing downward trends are likely to fade as businesses driven by market demands would create more employment opportunities across the country. »

Other sectors that showed encouraging growth in April were IT, Telecom/ISP, BPO/ITS (up 27%) followed by Logistics, Courier/ Freight/ Transport, Shipping/ Maritime (up 23%), Advertising, Market Research, Public Relations, Media and Entertainment (up 12%), Engineering, construction and real estate (10% increase) and Production/Manufacturing, Automotive and Auxiliary (up 5 percent) industries.

Growth in professional hiring in Malaysia strengthened in April, with 8 out of 9 job profiles tracked by the index seeing higher annual demand, with software, hardware and telecommunications (up 69%) leading the charge due to increased penetration digitization in all sectors.
