Member of the hygiene promotion team – North of Aleppo / Azaz

General description of the program:

GOAL has been working in Syria since 2013, responding to the acute needs of conflict-affected communities. GOAL works in northwest Aleppo both through direct implementation and through partners, providing food and non-food programs to highly vulnerable populations, and the provision of water, sanitation and (WASH) through support to water units, as well as emergency support to displaced households.

Purpose of the position:

The hygiene promotion team member will be part of a team that communicates with communities about health and hygiene needs and concerns. They will also assist in program strategy, verify information provided by various sources and communicate the program implementation strategy to stakeholders as part of the WASH response to safeguard and improve the public health of the affected population by:

  • Promote safe WASH practices, including the proper use and maintenance of WASH facilities and services, with an emphasis on hygiene practices in camps.
  • Ensuring appropriate community involvement in the design and delivery of essential WASH services and facilities by contributing to hygiene promotion sessions, awareness campaigns and distribution of hygiene aids/kits, the member of the hygiene promotion team will play an important role in emergency/emergency response.
  • And all other related tasks.

Missions, objectives and skills

  • Commitment to specific visits and within the times indicated.
  • Provide health awareness messages to beneficiaries through:
  • Hygiene promotion campaigns
  • Disseminate personal hygiene awareness messages.
  • Conduct health awareness sessions, participatory sessions, beneficiary discussions, home and school visits and hygiene promotion campaigns with the aim of promoting preventive health concepts to individuals and in the field of public health.
  • Encourage people to sterilize drinking water and raise awareness of water-borne diseases and sanitation.
  • Periodically send reports on hygiene promotion sessions and communicate with line manager regarding the completion of hygiene promotion plans.
  • Any other task requested by the WASH management.

Requirements (essential)

  • University degree or institute in health or any related field.
  • one year of work experience in humanitarian organizations.
  • Knowledge of the humanitarian situation in the region.
  • Ability to work under pressure and withstand work pressure.
  • Ability to communicate information and good communication skills.
  • Facilitate hygiene awareness campaigns at community level.
  • Help organize and facilitate training for the camp community.

Requirements (desirable)

  • Good level of English (spoken and written).
  • Training in public health, protection or similar
  • Good knowledge of Sphere standards
