Sturgis Chamber offers ‘lunch and learn’ to address employment challenges

STURGIS – As labor shortages continue locally and nationally, an organization in Sturgis hopes to make a difference.

The Sturgis Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting a series of ‘Lunches and Learns’.

The first took place on August 10 and focused on “Staff Retention Best Practices”. The presenter was Culture by Choice partner Kari Hatt. Sixteen people attended the event, held at Radiant Life Church.

Chamber chief executive Roxanne Persing said she and Chamber staff surveyed members earlier this year about their needs.

“The topics we cover are areas where our members have suggested they need help,” she said.

Persing went on to say that the Chamber mixes event locations in an effort to shine a light on other businesses and organizations in the community.

The next luncheon will take place on September 14 at St. John’s Episcopal Church and will focus on “Finding Talent: How to Increase Your Talent Pool”. Doors open at 11:45 a.m. and the event starts at noon. The cost is $12 for Chamber members and $17 for non-members.

Those who attend receive lunch and the opportunity to network with others and learn more about the topic of the day, Persing said.

A lunch meeting on October 12 will consist of a round table on “How we manage the challenge of employment”. Stay tuned for details and location.
