Webinar will examine the use of social media in background checks – Job Screening Resources

Written by Digital Content Editor Thomas Ahearn

Employers and recruiters have uncovered a wealth of information about potential job candidates using social media background checks. While employers and recruiters may seek to use the information to find the right candidate, the unrestricted use of this information in the hiring process is not without risks.

To help employers and recruiters, attorney Lester Rosen – the founder of Employment Screening Resources (ESR), a service offering from ClearStar – will host a live webinar on “The Use of Social Media in Background Checks and Candidate Screening” from 10:00 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. PDT on Wednesday, July 27, 2022.

In this webinar presented by Clear Law Institute, participants will navigate through the legal and practical pitfalls of using social media and search engines to find and screen candidates. They will also examine the pros and cons of using online data, including issues of discrimination, privacy and accuracy. Participants will be able to:

  • Use search engines and social networking sites to screen candidates
  • Review the sites available and what you can find
  • Identify the risks associated with the use of these sites
  • Implement workplace policies based on discrimination laws and rules regarding conduct outside working hours
  • Avoid Fraudulent Degrees and Fake Online Services Jobs
  • Assess the role of privacy in the use of social media

Just because something is online doesn’t mean it can legally be used. Although there is potentially useful information online, many employers and recruiters realize the potential risks associated with using social media and search engines to recruit and screen candidates.
